What is AMS?
AMS, or Amazon Market Services, is the advertising platform that complements Amazon's website. Anyone with a product to sell on Amazon.com (or some other Amazon websites) can create ads using AMS.
What are AMS ads?
AMS ads are a way to generate exposure for your book and to make it accessible to those that are interested in making a purchase on Amazon.com. AMS supports different types of ads. The most popular of these are the Sponsored Product (or Keyword) ads. With a Keyword ad, you specify which keywords that users on Amazon.com would need to type to find results that feature your product. If you want your book to be displayed in the search results from when someone types in JK Rowling, for example, you would create a Keyword ad that included 'JK Rowling' as one of the keywords.
Why should I use it?
Getting your book noticed in an ever increasingly crowded market can be difficult - but not impossible. Using AMS ads is one of the most popular ways authors get an edge nowadays. Authors routinely report a marked increase in sales (sometimes hugely so) once they start using AMS Keywords ads.
How do I get going?
Creating an AMS Keyword ad isn't difficult. Anyone can do it and many people do. If you need some assistance in getting up and running, however, we can help. Just drop us a line.
What is a keyword?
A keyword is one or more words that you predict will be used as a search term on Amazon.com - anything you type into a search window on Amazon (or Google or anywhere else for that matter) is considered a keyword (we use the word keyword in the singular even though the keyword may actually contain multiple words). It could be a single word, a phrase or any other combination of words. Oftentimes, people are looking for authors, book titles, series titles, genres or just about anything else relating to a book or what they are looking for.
Here are some random examples of keywords:
- the hobbit
- percy jackson
- fantasy adventure books
- romance titles
- harry potter
- books about murder mysteries
- steamy romance novels
How many keywords should I use?
For any given ad, you can use up to 1,000 unique keywords. Generally speaking, the more keywords you use, the better.
What keywords should I use?
When you create your Keyword ads, one of the first things you'll ask yourself is what keywords should I use? The answer is that it depends. If you have a specific sub-genre for your book, you can start by using keywords that are specific to that sub-genre. This could include specific author names, book titles, series titles, etc. This way, you'll reach those people that are specifically interested in that sub-genre. However, you can also go wider in the hopes of attracting a broader audience. There's nothing stopping you creating multiple ads each with their own keywords list. In fact, the more ads with more keywords you create, the wider the net you will cast. If you have 10,000 keywords, for example, you can create 10 ads each with 1,000 keywords such that each ad's keywords list is unique compared to the others.
